STARS
Each night beneath the sky's dark blanket, I watch tiny stars appear.
As they illuminate the world above, I imagine you floating across the heavens, flicking a million little switches.

TWO DAYS LATER

Even the weather is grieving.

Freezing fog as thick as smoke has obliterated the normal landscape of golden plains and blue skies that mimic sea and sand. In the back yard, the branches of six puny Bosnian pine trees droop under the weight of it. Ice glued to every surface.

Closer to the house on fragile stems, devoid still of leaves, icicles hang like frozen teardrops. I watch as drip by drip the plants cry.

There’s silence too. No birds. No wind. No you. Nothing.

Amidst the wet gray blanket that engulfs me, my body feels as lost as my heart.

I miss you. x
